Leasing a Tesla: Why the Model 3 and Model Y are ideal as company cars

Tesla has long been a leader in electric vehicles, with the Model 3 and Model Y particularly popular on the Danish market. While these two models share the same platform, they each have their own strengths.

The Model Y is a spacious SUV that appeals especially to families. It offers significantly more luggage and cabin space than the Model 3, making it an ideal family car.

The updated Model 3, on the other hand, is an elegant sedan with a more compact cabin and smaller luggage capacity. However, it compensates with a dynamic driving experience, low noise levels, and a premium cabin.

Both models are attractive choices as company cars.

In this article, we guide you through choosing between the Model Y and Model 3 so you can find the solution that best suits your needs—both in everyday life and leisure.

Tesla Model 3

The Model 3 is Tesla's mid-size sedan, first launched in 2017 with a range of 498 km—an impressive standard for electric vehicles at the time.

Today, seven years later, the Model 3 features an updated design, new improvements, and a range of up to 702 km (WLTP).

Futuristic and Sporty Design

The Tesla Model 3 boasts a clean, minimalist, and sporty design with aerodynamic lines that reduce wind resistance and contribute to its efficient range.

The front is marked by Tesla's iconic, clean look without a traditional grille, giving the car a futuristic and recognizable appearance.

This minimalist design continues inside, where a large 15.4-inch touch display in the center controls nearly all functions—from navigation to climate control.

An additional 8-inch screen has been added for rear-seat passengers, offering both climate control and entertainment options.

The interior materials provide a premium feel, while the panoramic roof brings in natural light, creating an open and spacious atmosphere.

Although the Model 3 is a mid-size sedan, it offers a luggage capacity of up to 682 liters—sufficient for daily needs and practical for families requiring extra space.

Charging and Range

The Model 3 is available in Standard, Long Range, and Performance versions, allowing you to charge up to 282 km in just 15 minutes. The Long Range version offers an impressive range of 702 km (WLTP). Opting for the Standard Range with rear-wheel drive gives you a range of 513 km (WLTP).

You can also choose the Performance model with 460 horsepower, enabling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. The Performance model comes with the Long Range battery, offering a range of 528 km (WLTP).

The Tesla Model 3 comes with a robust standard package, with optional add-ons limited to software upgrades that can easily be purchased via the app.

Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y was our most popular company car in 2023. It builds on many of the same qualities as the Model 3 but with a more spacious design.

It is not quite as aerodynamic as the Model 3 but is an obvious choice for those who want a slightly higher driving position and generous space in a car with excellent comfort and long range.

Spacious SUV with Large Luggage Capacity
The cabin in the Model Y offers extra space and high comfort compared to the Model 3. At the front, you’ll find a large "frunk," while the rear features a luggage compartment of up to 2,158 liters, easily accessed via the electric tailgate.

From 2024, the Model Y will also be available with up to seven seats, as two additional seats can now be added at the back.

Charging and Range

The Model Y comes in several variants. The Long Range RWD version offers the longest range at 600 km (WLTP). RWD refers to rear-wheel drive, featuring a single motor and a large battery.

There is also a Long Range variant with all-wheel drive (AWD), offering a range of 533 km (WLTP). The Standard Range version provides a range of 455 km (WLTP).

For those seeking fast acceleration, the Performance model is an excellent choice. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and has a range of 514 km (WLTP).

Regardless of the variant you choose, the Model Y supports a charging capacity of up to 250 kW. In just 15 minutes, you can charge the car to 241 km—placing it among the fastest charging options in its class.

Leasing Prices for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y

The taxation price for the Tesla Model 3 ranges from 299,990 to 458,802 DKK, while for the Model Y, it ranges from 329,990 to 429,990 DKK.
